PHP SSI Guide

So, interested in learning Server Side Includes (or SSI for short) are you?
Well, its quite easy and a lot more simple than editing every page to fix one link on the navigation bars. Basically, SSI devides your website into two sections and lets you easily edit them to your liking.
This is the PHP guide so all of your files must be saved with the PHP extention, otherwise this will not work.

First off, you need a webpage and know a bit of HTML to use SSI.
Open up your webpage in a HTML editor like Notepad and devide the HTML code into two parts. First part is your CSS and left menu, the second part is the right menu. To devide them select everything down to the bottom of the left menu HTML, most of the time it ends at the tag "<td>".
Copy this and open up a new file or document and paste that there. Then save it as "top.txt" and go back to your main HTML.

After you do that copy everything after your content area, this might start off as "<td id="rightmenu">", and should end with "</HTML>". Then open up yet another new document and paste what you just copied there. Then save the file as "bottom.txt". Remember that these two files must be saved as a text(txt)file.

After you do that all you should have left in your main document is the content. Now you need to put in the PHP tags into that document. First enter this tag to the top of all your documents that use the main site layout:

Now you need to add this code to the end of your documents that use the layout:

Now you need to upload the files to your server/host and your finished! I hope this helps you and if you have any questions you may contact me at the.raikou.lair@live.com.
